ADOPTING CHIOS MASTIC TREES
The traditional cultivation of Mastiha, which has been included by UNESCO in the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. We will contribute and adopt as many Chios Mastic Trees as possible. A percentage from each sale to be contributed to strengthen the cultivation the (Pistacia Lentiscus) Trees, so we thank you for all your ongoing support and will update you each time we adopt!
The basic agricultural practices taken regarding the Chios Mastiha trees include pruning the trees, enriching the soil, weeding, spreading a covering of clean white clay under the tree, “kentos” (piercing the bark) and washing the Chios Mastiha drops. The olive trees practices include harvesting the crop and pressing it to extract the oil. Many other practices are required throughout the year.
There are currently 24 Mastiha villages in Southern Chios. Owners around of these fields have entrusted the environmental project ' Adopt Chios Trees' with their own deserted fields.
We will visit all of our adopted trees in the near future and experience the powerful cycle of the Mastiha cultivation together.
